Minelab VANQUISH 340 vs 360: what really changed?

The important differences

These are manufacturer specifications for different generations, not a performance trial. The 340 instruction manual and 360 specifications are the right starting points if a seller's title is ambiguous. Minelab describes both as Multi-IQ; the 360 is not a simple frequency upgrade over the 340.

Why the waterproof difference changes the choice

With a 340, the searchcoil can enter shallow water within its stated limit, but the control unit must be kept out of water. A rain cover is not a submersion rating. On a wet beach, surf, a slip or a heavy shower can make that distinction important. The 360's IP68 5 m whole-detector rating expands where it can be used, but the manufacturer still specifies connector and headphone conditions. A standard wired headset may not be waterproof. Check waterproof seal care before taking any detector into water.

For regular conductive wet sand, both Multi-IQ machines can be attractive compared with many basic fixed-frequency detectors. The 360 has a named Beach mode and a simpler current interface. AA cells versus built-in charging

The 340's four AA cells can be replaced during a long session, and Minelab permits suitable NiMH rechargeables. Never mix rechargeable and non-rechargeable cells or charge ordinary alkaline cells. Inspect a used 340's compartment for corrosion and its door for a secure fit. The 360 uses an internal rechargeable battery and magnetic USB connection, avoiding routine battery-door opening. A used 340 needs a real inspection

Check the exact model label, stable power, all buttons, sound output, shaft locks, coil ears, cable strain relief and target response outdoors. Photograph the serial information and confirm the seller's ownership history and included coil. Do not assume an older V10 skidplate fits the newer V10X coil; verify part numbers. Which one makes sense?

Choose a sound used 340 only if its lower total cost, AA convenience and mostly dry-land use fit your actual sessions. Choose the 360 if whole-machine water protection, current support and its recharge-and-go setup matter more. Neither will replace good sweep control or a suitable permission.
